Not Allowed to Give Up
The everyday disaster doesn’t have a season, and we are reminded of this daily. Since January 1st, we have served 565 households across three states: Colorado, Missouri, and Arkansas.
Whether it’s fighting to get a security deposit back, deciphering the "fine print" of an insurance policy, or finding a safe place to sleep, we ensure that no one has to navigate the aftermath alone.
A recent apartment fire in Little Rock turned Sandy’s life upside down. When Sandy and her family woke up to a smoke filled apartment in the middle of the night, they had only seconds to escape before the building was fully engulfed in flames. They survived—but like many families after a disaster, they were left overwhelmed and unsure where to begin.
Through the Our Front Porch Stabilization Phase, our team was able to support Sandy and her family even across state lines. One of her sons, a military veteran living with PTSD, needed immediate mental health support. Our team connected him with trauma-informed care, while also providing the family with coping tools to manage the shock and stress following the fire.
Because the family did not have renters insurance, our team also helped Sandy understand her renters rights and coached her through conversations with her landlord. With that guidance, she was able to recover $1,200 in prorated rent and her security deposit, money that helped her secure new housing for her family.
This is the power of the Stabilization Phase—the critical bridge between crisis and recovery. Families don’t just need emergency response; they need guidance, advocacy, and emotional support to rebuild their lives.
“This is so hard. I just want to give up but you all make that really hard. You just keep calling.”
We thank you for being the reason that OFP can keep calling. You are the heart of the Our Front Porch community and provide the critical stabilization that turns a crisis into a comeback.
With gratitude,
The Our Front Porch Team
