Module 3: Paying for Utilities
Even if your utilities are shut off after a disaster, you’ll likely still pay a small monthly fee to keep your accounts active. When you add these costs to the utility bills from your temporary rental, it can feel like a lot to manage.
But the good news is that your ALE insurance covers these extra costs. To get reimbursed, call your utility providers and ask for your statements from the full year before the disaster. Once you have those, use our Utility Reimbursement Spreadsheet to track your spending and calculate exactly what the insurance company owes you. There are color coded instructions on the spreadsheet to make it easy.
